Extremely winter hardy red grape variety that produces a full bodied wine of high quality.

Used very successfully to make Port style wines. When grown well it can produce a Brix reading of 26 before dehydration begins. It has a high acid level, which can be moderated by acid reduction chemicals, Malo-lactic fermentation, chill-proofing, dilution, or a combination of these techniques.
